    Principal Lori DeAnda

    February 2012

    Dear CAIR Families,

We have gotten off to a great start to the second semester.  We completed our Performance Testing in January and many students showed improvement.  We will be sharing those results with parents/guardians as we communicate mid-term grades, during the first week in February.
We are in the middle of cold and flu season and are making every effort to sanitize student equipment and work areas to minimize the spread of germs.

For your convenience, here are some highlighted dates regarding important events and information:
    - Performance  Testing, January 2-20
    - The Great Central U.S. Shake Out, February 7 @ 10:15a.m.
    - PLC-half day, February 8
    - President’s Day, February 20 (no school)
The Center for Alternative Instructional Resources (CAIR) is the campus and administrative center for the following alternative programs: Transitions (6th – 12th grade), Crossroads Suspension Program (4th-12th grade) and Missouri Options GED Program. The District Focus program is also located at CAIR.

Our instructional delivery system is focused on real-life project-based learning and we hope to expand partnerships with community businesses and agencies for internship experiences. We are also continuing our advisory program Transitions, in which each student and staff member will belong to a “Family” that will meet weekly to monitor student academic and behavior progress, communicate with families, and monitor progress toward graduation. “CAIR Families” will participate in Community Service Projects and activities together. Advisors will expand their efforts with parent communication and partnerships.

Students in the Transitions program are referred through their sending schools and participation is voluntary.

The Missouri Options GED program (MOP) serves students who are at least 17 years old, are behind at least one year in credits, and whose cohort class are at least seniors this year.

Crossroads short term and long term alternative to suspension center is housed on the CAIR campus.

The entrance for the main office at CAIR is on the 10th St. side of the building. CAIR programs hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The buses will load and unload on the 10th St. sidewalk next to the building. Students who arrive after 7:30 a.m. may check in at the Main Office with Ms. Atkins. The principal’s office is at the Main Office location on the 10th St. side of the campus. I will continue to be the District Discipline Hearing Officer and Mrs. Bellew is the hearing secretary.

The main phone number for all CAIR Programs is 816-316-5150. Students have received new handbooks which include more in depth information regarding our program procedures such as the uniform policy, field trips, district policies, etc.

Our promise to you is that all students at CAIR will benefit from the small, personalized environment that has made alternative education in our district so successful. We are pleased, as always, to set the standard in alternative education in the state of Missouri and will continue moving forward with educational enhancements for your children. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions.
