Program Overview:
The Missouri Options GED Program will allow us to provide services to those students who are in jeopardy of dropping out of school because they are at least one year behind their cohort group (class) in high school credits or they have some other significant personal barrier that will prevent them from graduating with their class.
Student Eligibility:
-Students who are 17 years of age or older and at least one year’s credit behind their cohort group (class).
-Students who are returning from chemical dependency or psychiatric centers and cannot successfully complete CSD4 graduation requirements in the traditional high school.
-Pregnant teens and/or teen mothers who need to work full-time to support their babies and themselves.
-Students who are behind on their credits due to excessive absences and/or suspensions.
-Students who are behind on their credits and need to work full-time to help support their families.
-Any other significant reason identified by Student Success Teams to help targeted students receive a high school diploma.
Program Description:
- Missouri Options Program is housed in the C.A.I.R. building.
- Bus transportation is provided for those students who need it.
- According to the Program Rules, students who participate in the Missouri Options Program must attend GED Prep classes three hours per day, 5 days per week until they pass the GED test.
-Students who participate in the Missouri Options Program must also either work 15 hours per week or complete Community Service 15 hours per week. Students who work, must bring their paycheck stubs into the GED teacher each pay period for work verification. -Students participating in Community Service must provide a weekly note from their Community Service Supervisor.
Students will take the GED test when the GED Teacher deems them ready.
-Grandview C4 will pay for the initial GED Test for each student enrolled in the program. If the student fails the GED test, the student is responsible for paying for all future tests.
-Students who need district transportation will participate in Community Service every morning until lunch. Examples of Community Service include; working as an aide or clerk at Conn-West Elementary School and/or Preschool. After lunch at the C.A.I.R. building, this group of students will attend GED Prep classes.
Students who have a job and have their own transportation will attend GED Prep classes in the morning and then be dismissed to go to work.
-Students must remain in good standing with regard to daily attendance. Students will be dropped from the program if absences are excessive.
-When a student passes the GED test AND has completed all the work or Community Service hours requirement, he or she will receive their Grandview C4 High School Diploma. These students are eligible to participate in the regular high school graduation ceremony and extra curricular activities.
-Once the district issues a diploma, participants are then counted as Grandview High School Graduates.
