Dear Belvidere Families,
Welcome to 2010 and the second semester of teaching and learning at Belvidere Elementary. I hope the winter break provided great family time and a little relaxation for everyone. We have been working so hard and learning so much since the beginning of school. I know that you have seen incredible growth in your child’s learning.
As we move in to the second semester, we are continuing our efforts to help students improve and increase their knowledge in all areas. As a building, we are really focusing in on strengthening our students in the areas of reading, writing, and math. As a partnership with school, parents can provide support at home to continue the learning. Some ways to assist in that support are: review basic math facts, read a book or share the reading of a book with your child, ask comprehension questions during a story, or ask your child to write about something from a story. Another great way to support your child’s learning is to continue going through the work that comes home in the Friday Folders. This helps you to see how your child is performing on daily work at school, as well as test scores, reading scores, and school news. We deeply value and appreciate all the support you provide for the continued success of your child.
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teachers will be gearing up for MAP. The MAP testing window for the district is the end of March and throughout the month of April. When we get closer to that time, I will provide a brochure of information for MAP testing tips to help students be as successful as possible. Our Instructional Coach, Mrs. Stephanchick will be working with teachers and students in developing helpful test strategies.
Thank you for all you do in supporting the teaching and learning at Belvidere. If you do have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at 316-5300. I know that 2010 will be a very successful year as we continue our partnered efforts for maintaining high student achievement at Belvidere!
