CancellationsGC-4 cancellations

A Letter From Dr. Ralph Teran, GC-4 Superintendent of Schools

Dear Parents:

Most often if schools will be canceled or a daily schedule altered, it will be due to inclement weather.  Mid-western winters are unpredictable, and we at Grandview GC-4 School District have plans in place to maximize children’s safety as they travel to and from school in winter weather.

We strongly urge each of our school families to make emergency plans now and discuss them with your youngsters regarding changes which will occur when the school schedule is altered because of inclement weather or for any other reason.  Please have contingency plans in place so that your children will feel secure about the changes made for their safety.  Safety of children is a main concern of our school district.

There may be days when school will be canceled completely and no bus service will be needed.

On other occasions, we may delay the start of the school day for one hour or two hours.  In that case, busses will pick up students in accordance with the delayed time of one hour or two hours late, or as close to the schedule as is safely possible.

Releasing children early from school may become necessary when (for instance) a storm develops during the day and conditions worsen.  Normal school bus routes will be followed on these shortened school days; however, home arrival time might be delayed due to road conditions and safety precautions.  You will need to work with your children to develop plans for these possible early dismissals.

High Grove Early Childhood Center and Head Start will follow the same schedule as schools (either closed, late start and/or early dismissal.)

LINC Caring Communities, our before and after school daycare program, will also follow the same schedule as schools (either closed, late start and/or early dismissal.)

Local radio and television stations report school closing information.  Announcements will be made as early as practicable.  Announcements will also be posted on the front page of our web site, and our AlertNow telephone notification system will be utilized to contact parents.

If you have further questions, please contact your child’s school or the Grandview GC-4 Transportation Department at 816-316-5175.

Sincerely,

Ralph Teran
Superintendent of Schools
