Dear Conn-West Families,
It was so nice to see so many families at our MAP information dinner last month. “Do Your Best to Ace the Test” is the theme for April. For students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades – it is testing time. Our students are ready to show what they know on the state assessment. Students will begin testing on April 18th. Teachers and parents have been preparing students for this important assessment since the first day of school and our students are confident and prepared to show what they know on the test. Please make sure your student is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast in the morning. Another way you can help your child feel confident about doing his/her best on the test is by writing a little note of encouragement & putting it in their school folder, lunch box, etc… Notes of encouragement can say, “You can do it,” or “I believe in you!” Remind your child that he/she is special and you believe they are doing their very best. As parents, you are your child’s biggest cheerleaders and your support does make a difference. It is also important for students to maintain good attendance throughout the testing schedule.
The April Cougar Commitment is Excellence for All. Students and teachers will be discussing what this means, what it looks like, why is it important, and ways that students can follow the Cougar Commitment. The Conn-West Power Words of the Week for April are Excellence, Product, Review, and Compassion. Each week will be devoted to one of the Power Words and is always discussed on the daily morning announcements.
Conn-West will be hosting two wonderful community events during the month of April. A bicycle rodeo is scheduled for April 2nd from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Attendees will receive a bicycle helmet, bicycle inspection, goodie bag, hot dog and chips, learn the rules of the road, and run through the obstacle course. Pets Helping People is scheduled for April 23rd from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Stay involved by attending the Principal’s PIE (Partners in Education) meeting scheduled for April 14th @ 6:00 pm in the cafeteria. The LINC Community Site Council/Principal's PIE is a meeting of community members (parents, administrators, teachers, community residents, church members, business, etc) discussing community and school related issues. The Community Site Council/Principal’s PIE is open to the public. Dinner and childcare will be provided by LINC.
I would encourage you to join the Conn-West PTA. The PTA works collaboratively with the school in providing our students with many wonderful opportunities. Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for April 19th @ 6:00 pm in the cafeteria.
Our Average Daily Attendance for the month of March was 93.47% and we had over 87.6% of our students in school at least 90% of the time. Our building goal is 97% average daily attendance and greater than 90% of our students at school 90% of the time. We are proud of our students who report to school on time each day; Respectful, Responsible, Ready to Learn and Lead!
