October 2014 Principal’s Perspective
GHS Parents, Students and Community,
Welcome to fall! School is in full-swing, temperatures are cooling-off and students are doing amazing things at Grandview High School. Among the events and activities you should be aware of in the month of October are Parent-Teacher Conferences October 22nd -23rd, the October 26th ACT test date, and of course Halloween on October 31st. We cannot stress enough that a healthy school-parent partnership places students in the best position to be successful in all of their endeavors.
As a reminder, Parent-Teacher Conferences at GHS are structured using a “drop-in” format. The process is very simple and friendly to parents with a busy schedule as an appointment with specific teachers is not required on these dates. Parents may arrive at any time during the conference hours and meet with the teacher(s) of their choosing. Our experience has been that wait times to see teachers, even during peak hours, tends to be less than 10 minutes. Please look for additional details about Parent-Teacher Conferences in the coming days.
As I do each year, I wanted to remind parents that from a statistical perspective, Halloween is a date when late-night incidents tend to occur more frequently. Part of this is due strictly to the increased volume of young people who are outdoors on October 31st, but another part of this involves young people who press the limits of their regular curfew or adult supervision. Arming oneself with information about what is happening with children, friends and family in the days leading up to Halloween is always a good idea. We love each and every member of our Bulldog family and want to make sure they are safe and always a positive influence throughout the community.
