November Principal’s 2014 Perspective

November represents the first anniversary of our 1-1 Laptop Initiative at GHS.   It is great to see students and teachers collaborating and learning during the school day and beyond via technology. One thing I would like to remind parents is that laptops can be an excellent hub for YOU to check for the latest homework or school-related social media.  As always, if you have any questions please call (816) 316-5800 and we will be happy to assist you.

November is traditionally a time when most of us begin to look ahead to the holidays and spending time with family and friends.  As I have done in the past, I wanted to share a little about what it means to our students to be part of the larger Grandview community.   Our young men and women are a direct reflection of both the community they live in and the responsible adults who guide their lives.  Our students are always watching, observing and learning based on the experiences they encounter, not just at school, but at home and in the community.  If we want GHS to be a place of high character and respect, we need students to be exposed to these traits beyond the walls of the high school. From this perspective, our students can truly only reach their maximum potential if there is a strong school-home-community partnership.

On a final note, we want to extend a huge thank-you to the 500-plus families that attended the October parent-teacher conference night.   In order for GHS students to reach their highest aspirations requires a total team effort.  Your attendance shows evidence of your commitment, and for that we are very appreciative.  Have a great November and Thanksgiving break!
