Great Start to 2012!

Dr. Ralph Teran, GC-4 Superintendent

January 3, 2012

A new year brings great possibilities. Our district has, for as long as I've been here and probably way before that, scheduled a teacher work day following the teacher holiday.  This morning I was a guest at the Martin City K-8 Staff Annual New Year's Brunch for returning and retired staff.  I always enjoy this, because the food and fellowship is great.  It is wonderful to hear the retired staff catch us up on all their activities. Observation: retirement is pretty active for most school people!  I also like the special anticipation teachers have about seeing their students again after a break.  Sure, we may hear expressions such as, "it was too short," but more than anything you hear, "I'm looking forward to seeing my kids, reconnecting with them."

I don't think there in anything like the heartbeat of a teacher.  It doesn't matter if they are in their first year, or retired for ten, if you listen, you will hear it.  So in this early part of 2012, I am reminded again about how teachers shape and touch our lives, in ways seen, and unseen - and I am grateful.  Don't let January pass without thanking a current or past teacher for what they do day in and day out.

We appreciate the continued support received from our parents and patrons. Stay informed by visiting the district web site at www.csd4.k12.mo.us, subscribing to the district e-news and by viewing future issues of the School Report as we strive to make 2011-12 the best. We also encourage you to join our community on Facebook and Twitter.

Happy New 2012!,

Ralph Teran
