Potential GHS Stadium Upgrades Info
FORMATION
In April 2011, voters approved a $7 million Grandview C-4 bond issue. One of the projects targeted was the replacement of the Grandview Middle School heating/cooling piping, at an estimated cost of $2.4 million. Based on information gained during the first phase of the project which occurred this summer, the scope of work for the remaining phases was reduced to a total estimated cost of $1.4 million – resulting in $1 million available for reallocation to other projects and initiatives.
This prospect provides the district with a unique and timely opportunity to consider using the $1 million to provide upgrades to the Grandview High School Stadium which would include a turf surface on the field, new goals and goal posts for soccer and football, new LED score board and a potential upgrade to stadium seating. An upgrade would create a multi-purpose facility that could be enjoyed and utilized by students, parents, staff and community members, and would afford the same opportunities available in the majority of area districts. Currently, 21 out of 25 schools in the Suburban Athletic Conference have turf on their fields. Additionally, upgrades would allow:
- Increased outdoor classroom space for physical education
- Outdoor classroom space for other grade levels/content areas
- Outdoor practice space for multiple athletic teams
- Outdoor practice field for marching band
- A state of the art field for football and soccer competitions
- Hosting of state level athletic competitions
- Hosting of band competitions
- Greater flexibility in the use of other on-campus fields
- Increased economic activity in the community
- Partnerships with Grandview Parks and Recreation for expanded community programming
The Grandview C-4 Board of Education will be voting on whether to spend the funds on this project in the next few months, therefore the following community input meetings have been scheduled to provide an opportunity to share information, respond to questions and seek input from various stakeholders
